A pet-friendly café in Cebu City: bring the dog

Finding a café in Cebu City where you can actually bring your dog is harder than it should be. Plenty of places say "pet-friendly" and mean the sidewalk table by the road. We wanted the real thing, so we built it in: dogs are welcome on our floor, not just parked outside it.

Part of that is selfish. We have a resident café dog named Amber, and she set the standard. Once you've run a café with a dog wandering the room greeting regulars, letting yours join feels like the most natural thing in the world.

What "pet-friendly" actually means here

It means your dog comes upstairs with you. It means we'll bring a water bowl without being asked. It means the yellow chairs and the big windows are as much your dog's spot for the afternoon as yours. Well-behaved pets on a leash, a little awareness of the other tables, and you're all set. That's the whole rulebook.

We're on the 2nd floor of Hotel One along Juana Osmeña St., a short walk from the Fuente Osmeña area, with free wifi and outlets if the human half of the party has work to do while the dog naps under the table.

Meet Amber, the resident

Amber is the reason a lot of regulars come back, and we've made peace with being second on that list. She's gentle, she's used to a room full of people, and she's a good icebreaker if your own dog is shy about new places. Bring a nervous pup in and she tends to sort them out faster than we could.

What to order for the table

Settle in with an Americano, one of our reviewers called it "strong taste, great choice of beans," and let the afternoon run long. If you're hungry, the breakfast menu is on all day, so pancakes or a sharing platter work whether it's 9am or 7pm. You can search the whole menu here before you come. The dog treats you'll have to bring yourself; we're a café, not a pet store, though Amber will absolutely accept donations.
